I don't yet know this chap's first name.
This oil painting is very nice, it measures
9x12. It has a beach house, sand dunes and lighthouse, not to mention the ocean.
All you need is a frame, or simply display this beautiful oil painting on an
easel.

Arthur
Blackburn Beautifully executed in @1916, by British
artist, Arthur Blackburn, on canvas with the original stretcher strips and gold
leaf Victorian frame. Titled on the reverse, in very old original writing by
the artist, "English Hawthorne Blossom" as well as dated and signed on
the front lower right. In excellent condition with no repairs or inpainting
measuring 17.5 x 19 inches. Comparable works by this artist have sold at auction
for over $1000.00; the reserve on this auction is at a fraction of that amount,
making this an attractive and most enjoyable investment. The paintings beauty
and presence speaks for itself like any painting of fine quality.

Jane (Jemima)
BlackburnBIRDS
DRAWN FROM NATURE
The Lesser Black-Backed
Gull, Larus fuscus (Adult & First Year’s Bird) Signed in the plate by
Blackburn and lithographed by Macluer & Macdonald, beautifully hand-colored
This is an artist that
I have never come across before and I find her work to be quite fresh and
lively. Christine Jackson refers to her work as “....delightful illustrations
with accurate birds“. The Birds in her book are almost exclusively from
Inverness-shire. She was a keen observer as well and a drawing of hers of the
Cuckoo ejecting the Meadow Pipit‘s fledgling from the nest was sent by the
Duke of Argyll to Gould who then used this as the subject for his lithograph in
Birds of Great Britain. The first edition of her book was issued in 1862 with no
hand-colored copies although one was sold in the H. Bradley Martin Collection
and there were only 6 hand-colored copies of the 1868 edition, so I am assuming
that these were hand-colored at a later date. They are all very nicely done and
appear to have been painted very near to the date of publication, so I am quite
certain that the coloring dates to the 1870-1890 period. Sized 14 1/2 x 10 1/4
inches with the Black Guillemot and Goshawk sized 13 3/4 x 10 1/4 inches. Very
pretty hand-colored prints. It is said that she promised to send her mother a
drawing every day and she completed nearly one each day for 60 years!! Thackeray
and Ruskin were amongst her fervent admirers.....she had a good visual memory,
physical stamina in pursuing her subjects, and a dry wit!!
(15th August 2001)
I'm assuming this book is the same Jemima - I'll know when it arrives.
"Jemima -
The Paintings and Memoirs of a Victorian Lady." Robert Fairley
(Editor & Introduction). Trafalgar Square. 1988.
Beautifully illustrated in high quality color reproductions throughout the
book. 207 pages. 10 1/2" x 7 1/2"
An outstanding watercolour artist with many original themes and moving
portraits of nature. Her memoirs are insightful of her childhood, the
salons of London, her travels in Europe and the Middle East, and her
incomparably beautiful highland home. Ruskin described her as the best
artist he knew.

This one is difficult to categorise
M Blackburn
this unusual older map of MIDDLE EARTH. Based on the Lord of the Rings by
JRR Tolkien, authorized by The American Publisher Houghton Miflin Co. The
lower right corner in type reads BRUIN INC PUBLISHER 342 Madison Ave NY NY.
It measures 29 1/2" x 40" and was originally hand created by M. Blackburn.
The top of the map reads " BEING A MAP PURPORTING TO TRACE THE DIVERS ROUTES
TAKEN BY THE COMPANIONS OF THE RING DURING THEIR HEROIC AND HISTORICAL
JOURNEYS THROUGH MIDDLE EARTH". The style of writing is the same as the
larger MIDDLE EARTH at the bottom, only smaller. I have no idea of how this
map originally was distributed, by book, by itself, with a game, etc. I
found it in a suitcase of assorted papers and advertising flyers from the
60's and 70's that came from the basement of a San Francisco Victorian home.
It has remained folded over the years so you see some discoloration along
the creases that were exposed. There are some tears along the outer edges
and some wear along the very top edge. Seems to be only one seam split of
about 1" in the upper left corner. It is what it is, and a unique item to
add to your Tolkien Middle Earth collection |

Morris A. Blackburn silkscreen Still Life 9
First off-I handle a lot of art, but mostly originals-prints are not my area
of expertise. I am pretty sure however that this is a silkscreen-possibly a
woodcut. Title is Still Life #9, no. 4 of an edition of 25. It is signed
Morris Blackburn and dated '41 l/r. I'm pretty sure all of this is clear in
the photos. I have had this a while hanging in my home-I find it a striking
modernist image. Blackburn was a Philadelphia artist and print-maker, born
in 1902. Studied at the PAFA with McCarter and Carles. Please ask questions
if you have them. Since I am unsure of the medium, I will offer a money-back
guaranty on this. Size is approx. 6"x8".

You are bidding on an antique frame and print of Jesus
walking in the clouds.
The frame measures 10X13. This is a gorgeous print with so much detail.
This print is a great
piece from the holes in his hands down to the draping robe.
There was a picture behind this in the frame
that was dated 1961, but as for the age of this print I am not sure
but it is quite apparant from the coloring
and style of the frame that it is quite old.
The signature at the bottom is S.M. Blackburn. The condition of the frame
is fair I would say. It is black with gold trim
and it has two small nicks on the left side
but other than that it is in pretty good condition.
Thanks for looking and good luck! |

BLACKBURN abstract o/c Still Life XLNT VLR
EXTREMELY WELL
DONE oil on canvas by R?M Blacburn. I do not know whether this is a listed
artist or not. In any case, however, the artist displays great skill at
creating a very appealling abstract still life of fruit, flowers, utensils
and musical instrument. Measures approx. 31"x25". Signed lower left. I dont
know the age, but appears to say either "3/26" or "3/36". I'll let you be
the judge on that one. Is nicely framed in a modern frame. Could have been
reframed in this at sometime. Painting is in excellent condition as far as I
can tell. I have not gone beyond a close visual examination. If youre into
abstract/modernistic art you wont be disappointed |
