Blackburn's Casca Royal Pills
I hoped this would be my second acquisition, but I
failed to wake up to put in the killer bid - not
uncommon.
There's
another one sale June 2001- poor condition and empty, but worth a try. It
went for a crazy $27 - I think that's more than the one in the photo,
complete and in good condition.

I've got one at last, and only $5. Empty, but excellent condition and I have
a free sample of those lovely pink pills from the Mentho Laxine below. |

Blackburn's
Compound Essence - Mentho Laxine. Makes one pint of laxative cough syrup by The
Blackburn Products Co., Dayton, Ohio. Complete in box with instructions.
But I
did win this one. The bottle arrived on May 29th. It contains,
wonderfully, free samples of the pink pills plus a small tube of something
unpleasant and probably meant for the nether regions. But I still want
that tin.

Mentho Laxene Blackburn Products Dayton Ohio
This is a lot of 5 Mentho Laxene cork top bottles for your bid
consideration. This is new old stock at its best. Nice clean labeled clear
cork top medicine bottles for your collection or display. Photos tell the
story of the quality these pieces, try to find them in better condition.
Label claims "To make one pint laxative cough syrup..." Nice clean perfect
bottles, good original corks and labels and all 5 of them are embossed on
the sides "Mentho Laxene B. P. Co." (on both side panels). |

Blackburn's
Cadomene Tablets
Here
we have an old pill bottle made of wood. The label is pretty fragile. These tablets were distributed by The Blackburn Products Co. Dayton
Ohio. I don't know
much about it, but the pics show condition well. It measures 3 1/2 inches tall.
This
one too, but I still mourn those pink tablets.
Arrived
4th June.

And
here's another product from the Blackburn stable on sale from an
excellent-sounding fellow:
FULL
Bottle Box & Contents SU-THOL & Adv
Hello
dear bidders! - If you follow my auctions ....you may remember that just
about a year ago ....I purchased a very large collection of Antique
Pharmacy items from the “Poor’s” Drug Store in Maine. Well.....
incredibly .... I found myself in the right place at the right
time.....and have managed to do it again!!!
This
amazing collection comes from “Lalime’s Drugstore ” located in
Waterville, Maine. For
many years .... Lalime’s supplied the local folks with Patent Medicine
.. Homeopathic herbs & Quack cure galore!
Once ‘cured’ ...customers could stop back in for an Ice Cream Soda or
a Lemon Phosphate.
The Drugstore is long gone... but the contents were sold off by a local
auction house ....and I was fortunate enough to attend . |

The
form in the middle picture above is an invitation to send 10 cents for a
copy of Health and Beauty. And here it is.
Health
and Beauty 1924
Lewis Baker 1924 Revised Ed Paperback Fair. 24mo, 133, Small
paperbound. Covers are worn. Largely a sequence of pharmaceutical formulas
which purport to address specific bodily ailments, a small portion of the
end of the text, pp. 117-28, promoting the products of Baker's firm, The
Blackburn Products. Fifth Edition, Revised.
o
I
managed to buy this one too. It looks as though Blackburn and Baker were
the driving force behind all these cures. This book is also hip-deep in
homespun philosophy of the sort which puts my teeth on edge. |

Patricia Hilborn has kindly sent me from
Texas another edition of Health and Beauty which contains alternative
Blackburn ads. Click to enlarge (in the 10 years since I started this, the
space allocation has increased enormously, it's a shame the early
restrictions forced small images). Thanks Patricia |
