Mary Cary Blackburn
Toward The Higlands
A 133 page hardcover book of poems titled Toward The Highlands, by Mary
Cary Blackburn, dated 1912. The forward says "Introducing to the
public Mary Cary Blackburn, the author of this volume, we take pleasure in
saying that she is a direct descendant from the same parent stock as the
world-known poet sisters, Alice and Phoebe Cary. Her productions are true
to life, strikingly original and close to nature's heart. She has mingled
with God's creatures under widely varied conditions, and is equally at
home in the crowded city and among the scattered settlers' shacks on the
plains of Saskatchewan. A responsive chord will be touched in the heart of
every reader, whether gay of nature and pleasure-loving or reserved and
calm. Rich and poor, proud and lowly, will find that this little volume
bears a personal message." There are approximately 150 poems in this
book which is in good condition with about five pages having a wrinkle or
very small tear on the end, a couple cover stains, a tight binding and a
name written in pencil inside the front cover.
