Western Medical Herbalism aims to restore and maintain health using plant-based tinctures, teas and topical applications alongside diet and life-style advice to improve general well being.

It is important to note that herbal remedies should only be prescribed as part of a structured consultation including a full physical examination. However, for those who are seeking an over-the-counter remedy, some herbal equivalents do exist. Recommendations are made of the books on the subject of medical herbalism which I have found useful. The first area I will address is Trapped Wind and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, followed by skin complaints, then Insomnia and disturbed sleep.
