Research, Decimal Issues

Up - bottom - notes - pre-decimal - diary

pre-decimal - regular perfs - elliptical perfs - large - NVI - overseas - PiP - security - anniversary - Wildings - SoS - other

The work has been done by Robin Harris and is shown on GBMachins, including a terrific simplified album.

The album lists all the stamps I need in a sensible sequence. Another useful page is the Machin Timeline.

The stamps are categorised as:

Although this section is largely machin-driven, there are others to show,

And regional issues to be considered later.

Now to deal with those categories in detail.

security

These 'additional security' stamps are, to me, again examples of Royal Mail going over the top. The stamps have slits (presumably to make it harder to reuse uncancelled stamps) and/or gibberish 'iridescent overlay text' indicating year and source. A pleasant, clean stamp design, the Machin, has become a mess. It looks as though these are being gradually introduced.
  • 2009 slits and text

  • SG-U295 £3 deep mauve
  • SG-U2916 £5 azure
  • 2011 slits only, not text
  • 2011 these are included in my album and listed in Smiths, but not in my SG catalogues.
