GB 1 Pound Stamps

Up - GB 1d and £1 - USA 1c and $1 - f France 1c and 1F - Germany 1pf and 1M - New Zealand 1d and £1 - Egypt - bottom

This page follows on logically from the GB 1 pennies. One key difference is that I cannot afford any of the first six stamps and so will be using images from a variety of acknowledged sources. My intention is to show all the images with a height of 300 pixels, reduced on the page to 100 - click to enlarge

All the GB definitives are now shown here.

Sc, SG831b
£1 black

The only difference between SG790 and SG831b is the font on the '£1'. What's the point of that?
The first £1 stamp cataloguing at less than the face value - in my comfort zone at last.

This miniature sheet of 'Her Majesty's Stamps' was issued at London's 2000 International Stamp Show. The same £1 stamp appears in a 2004 prestige booklet which catalogues for an absurd £55. The design is based on the Dulac 1953 1s3d coronation stamp, SG534.

2010

£1 brown
£3 / £3

GB SG1 GB SG1
MS for the centenary of George V's accession, including a £1 stamp (SG3069) recalling the early and late GV stamp images, as shown on the penny stamps.

2010
Sc, SG-MS3072
£1 greens and blues
£6 / £6

GB SG1
MS for the Festival of Stamps reproducing the 1924 British Empire Exhibition 1d and 1½d issues (SG430,431) on first class stamps and the 1913 seahorses (10/- SG402 and £1 SG403, above) on the £1 stamps (SG3070 and SG3071).

The two miniature sheets in 2010 showed the way things are going in GB stamps - far too many issues cynically designed to lighten collectors' wallets. Those were included because the subject-matter has some philatelic interest. The 2011 pound stamps are a different matter as they are cropping up in some of the routine commemorative issues. The individual stamps will be shown until boredom sets in, but attention will concentrate on definitives.
