There are [I wrote in 2002 when setting up the original version of this page] two main reasons for choosing this as the third Homage exploration. Firstly it is a fine original subject with many copies available. Secondly, I already have one of the finest homages, an American Gothic rendering of Mondrian

I will organise the images in approximate sequence of how much I like them.

In the 2012 rewrite, I am starting with a straight copy of the contents and will indicate new material as it arrives.

I have had this from the early days of the Mondrian Collection
Its origins are uncertain, but it is clearly a work of genius (if you like this sort of thing)

There is an extraordinary number of very similar images on this theme and so this, as with the Mondrian, appeals with its distance from the original.

This is a terrific series from the Arkansas Tech site. Following these subjects, mostly against a standard background, there is an interesting variation on the theme with a standard couple in the foreground against a changing background. [Well there was, the original link to the image page has dies.]

This excellent site, ArtLex, has a number of homages, including this rather fine triptych, artist unknown. homage
The original page from Mr. Vincent's 5th Grade atWillowdale Elementary School has gone, but one of the links on that page is still live. The process was,

American Gothic by Grant Wood was divided into rectangular sections. Students were assigned sections to draw and paint to enlarge the artwork.

Linotype halftone in opposing directions of Grant Wood’s original painted on a shattered window in red and orange. Red dripping from the broken glass and pitchfork tines denote the surreal horror this piece has always given me. $1500

Jeanne Heilman

Jeanne's images include great art where Vizslas portray the AMERICAN GOTHIC, MONA LISA and WHISTLER'S MOTHER. One can see in AMERICAN GOTHIC the stern upbringing that has been bred into those vizslas since they were puppies. They worked hard all their lives to obtain a small American farm that they could call their own.
